Warrington Borough Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

We know of the following issues:

  • Interactive element does not meet minimum size nor spacing (WCAG 2.5.8) – some links or buttons on a number of pages are too small and need to be bigger
  • Inline frame missing a text alternative (WCAG 4.1.2) – Some pages use an inline frame (or iframe) and they need to have a text description to explain what they do
  • Link missing a text alternative (WCAG 2.4.4) – There are some links represented by images or icons and they need to have a text description to explain what they are and where they link to
  • Colour contrast does not meet minimum requirement (WCAG 1.4.3) – There needs to be more contrast between text colour and its background to make it more readable
  • Container element is empty (WCAG 5.2.5) - Roles provide information about structure and how pages fit together, some of this information is missing and needs to be added
  • Links are not clearly identifiable (WCAG 1.4.1) – Links need to be easily identifiable and not just be a different colour, this is an issue on some of sign up pages
  • Form field missing a label (WCAG 4.1.2) – Some pages need a clear visible label for a field that contains some information

The issues have been raised with our supplier and we aim to have them fixed by the end of July 2024.

Disproportionate burden

This is a new website and has been designed to be as accessible as possible and meet WCAG 2.1 AA standard.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We carry out a full review of the site and address all WCAG 2.1 AA issues as identified by our Siteimprove testing software with our software supplier. We will then check the site again once the work has been completed to ensure compliance.

Other PDFs and documents

Most of the content on this site is provided by third parties as user generated content such as documents and forms, are not under the control of Warrington Borough Council and so may not be in an accessible format.
