Warrington Youth Club - Girls Group (Monday)
The Girls Group projects (ages 7-12 or 12-19)
The programme is designed to facilitate an environment where girls can make friends, have fun and gain information regarding services in the local area. Through activities, games and structured sessions we hope to improve social skills, confidence and self-esteem, whilst empowering young women to make the right choices.
At present we have two separate programmes that run as part of the Girls Group project.
Monday night Girls Group is designed for girls with high additional support needs. The programme runs over an academic year, meaning the intervention is long term with targets for each girl to achieve over this period. As Monday night’s group offers more intensive support, the group is much smaller. We offer one to one support on a regular basis whereby we discuss any emotional issues or barriers to their learning. Our Monday night provision is designed to support young women that are considered to be the most vulnerable and at-risk in Warrington and surrounding areas.
This provision offers much more support around mental health issues and as a result we facilitate the use of external agencies. We promote the use of local services and often have external providers delivering sessions that we feel would be of benefit to the girls individually. The overall objective for each individual is a positive progression into our Wednesday programme or other provisions within the Youth Club.
Monday evening sessions are more structured and designed to improve confidence and social skills, along with providing a platform for the girls to build friendships in a safe environment. The following issues are explored:
v Positive relationships
v Conflict resolution
v Drug and alcohol awareness
v Stereotypes and pre-judged attitudes
v Body Image
